The effort to establish Coconino County (Arizona) began in 1884 when local civic boosters W.G. "Mickey" Stewart and Dr. P.J. Brannen were elected to the Territorial Legislature. However, the effort to split Yavapai County, and form Coconino County, wasn't successful until 1891.
